Everything else went pretty well! Once again, I wasn't sure whether or not there would be a program on after mine...last minute frantic knocking on the studio door.

Oh, and Amy Grant got scratched from this week's list. It was one of those obligatory "she was at IUP yesterday" (and she was, too...) tracks that became not so obligatory--heh. Holla if you want Amy Grant! Holla...

Random notes: I had downloaded a live version of a Tristan Prettyman song a few weeks ago, and liked it...was on the fence whether or not to buy her newest CD, "Twenty Three"...and I have to admit, the cover convinced me to go ahead. It didn't surprise me to find out that this woman is also a model. Her CD is a nice collection of simple acoustic pop, with featured guests Jason Mraz and G. Love popping in on a few tracks...Just so you know, I've had the Russian Futurists song in my jukebox for a few months now, but only this week does its insistent refrain keeps nagging at my brain. See if it does the same for you (and I'm sorry if that's--um--not a good thing)...Really, the main reason Perry follows the RF is that I thought his song has a similar type repetitive groove, albeit, 50s-style, of course...hey, just try and overlay the two songs...the cover of the Ides of March's "Vehicle" was a nice surprise that I found on Brian Ibbott's podcast "Coverville" last week (not that the program was last week's...anyhow...). Brian does a really nice job at presenting a charming, low-key podcast with some interesting stuff every week (and my God, more than once a week...how do these bloggers do it? Do they have jobs? Do they have families and/or lives? Heh.)...I do love ellipses...My two fave songs on the program this week are both from the UK...The Rakes with their itchy, nervous, driving beat (seems to be a trend lately) and Guillemots' utterly beautiful song, beautifully produced as well, I might add. It sounds great...As I will probably say in my geeky way on my show on Sunday, "It's a Monster's Holiday" is a song I recall from my childhood. Someone must have bought it for me. I don't remember asking for it, though in general it is difficult to remember things that happened when you were 6 in great detail...I hope I have enough time to play the Sinatra song; it's a live track that has stage banter that I always find interesting, and I hope you do, too...OK, that's quite enough for now! (Or is it...a few last minute additions to the show, and in the interest [whose?] of full disclosure..."Wrapping Paper" was a bonus cut, cos I mistakenly cued up track 1 instead of track 2 [which is "I Feel Free"]...and...wonder of wonders, I actually had extra time in the second half of the show to put in Momus' "Giapponese a Roma"...musta been cos I didn't talk a whole lot this week? [updated 4/2])

Random notes: This week's theme (which started at 9:30 instead of 10--how do I denote that?) was inspired by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this week... From the "Hey, Did You Know?" file: The Sex Pistols were A&M artists for 6 days, I do believe, until tip-offs from music industry insiders and nasty behavior at the A&M offices made management change their mind (and recall the "God Save the Queen" single from its pressings); the Pistols still got paid, though...another successful rock 'n' roll swindle!!...I first heard the delightful double album "An Evening with Groucho" while a student at Indiana University of PA, and this past year I was lucky enough to snag it when they had a massive sale of their record album collection (yay!); it's terrific and very funny and kind of sad and sweet in a way, too, considering the context of this wry old man looking back at his life...and if that's not enough...the album also features Dick Cavett (yowzah!)..."Por Amor Viviremos" is "Love Will Keep Us Together," just so you know...oh no, really it's more like "We Will Live by Love." We will? We will ('sawright)...Quick-minded sorts surely realized that the version of "Goodbye Stranger" actually didn't come from the "Breakfast in America" CD, but rather the "Magnolia" movie soundtrack, as Philip Baker Hall's stiff upper-lip game show host introduces Round 2 before the song starts...more babble next week!

Random notes: DEEJAY ERROR (ooh fun!): The original song programmed instead of the Stones' "No Expectations" was their "19th Nervous Breakdown"; I put in the wrong CD...typical...Gee, the James Gang sounded funny on air to me...the guitars seemed muted...the funk was still intact, though...Spooner is a band from Erie, PA, which has some interesting music posted on their myspace page...nice original tunes, and they can keep a groove going without it becoming tired (IMHO); they are playing at the Brown Hotel in Indiana this spring on 3/23 and 4/27...."Miss Sarajevo" was chosen in dubious memory of Slobodan Milosevic, who died this past week while awaiting trial for war crimes....and from the semi-sublime to the ridiculous, the selection of "I Wanna Hot Dog for My Roll" was inspired by the local hot dog man controversy here in Indiana....The Marvin Gaye duets were the last to be placed in the lineup, with a CD purchased the afternoon of the show (I love big book 'n' music stores)...
